A national effort to address teacher shortages is expanding into Wisconsin, with a program aimed at removing financial barriers for aspiring educators. The National Center for Grow Your Own has received a $300,000 grant to bring its teacher apprenticeship model to the state. The program is designed to support people already working in schools—such as paraprofessionals and support staff—by allowing them to earn a paycheck while completing the training required to become licensed teachers.Local education leaders say that kind of financial support could make a significant difference.
